Dr Richard Burchill is an expert in legal and regulatory issues, with over 25 years of diverse experience across Europe, the Gulf, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, and the UK. His career encompasses a range of roles, from academia and leading research institutes to consultancy, advocacy, and advisory positions for both public and private companies, including several start-ups. His extensive experience allows him to understand and navigate complex legal landscapes across industries and jurisdictions. His diverse knowledge enables him to synthesise diverse viewpoints and insights from various sectors, ensuring a holistic approach to solutions.

His career has been centred on the promotion and protection of human rights, which he has effectively integrated into a diverse array of subjects and regulatory frameworks. He has extensive engagement in counter-terrorism initiatives and efforts to counter violent extremism while ensuring human rights protection. In this context, he has significant expertise in digital privacy and privacy rights, ensuring that human rights are respected while upholding security for all, amid rapid technological change. He has rendered expert advisory services to national governments and international organisations on these critical topics. Richard is currently an Associate Research Fellow at the Institute for Regional Integration Studies at the UN University, Brugge. He is the author/editor of over 60 publications.
